About Time Card Calculator

Time Card Calculator is a free set of calculators for hourly pay: a weekly and biweekly time card, an hours worked calculator, an overtime calculator and a minutes to decimal converter, with guides to the rules behind them. It is built for hourly workers checking a paycheck, and for small business owners and supervisors totalling hours before payroll, who want the answer without creating an account.

How the calculations work

Every calculator on the site runs on one small calculation engine. It converts each punch to minutes, handles shifts that cross midnight, subtracts unpaid meal breaks, applies the rounding increment you choose, splits each seven day workweek into regular, overtime and double time hours, and prices them. The engine is covered by automated tests built from worked examples, including the California seventh day rule and biweekly periods where only one week has overtime. The same engine powers every page, so the time card, the overtime calculator and the hours calculator always agree with each other.

Where the rules come from

The overtime and rounding rules follow the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and its regulations in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations, and the published rules of the state labor departments for California, Alaska, Nevada and Colorado. Guides link to the regulation or agency page they rely on. Wage law changes and has exceptions for particular industries and job types, so the calculators give the general rule, not legal advice. If you are in a pay dispute, your state labor department or the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division can advise on your specific situation.

Your entries stay on your device

Everything you type is calculated in your browser. Time card entries are saved in your browser's local storage so you can fill in a week day by day, and they are never sent to a server. Clearing the card or your browser data removes them. There are no accounts, and nothing about your hours or pay is collected.

Why it is free

The site is free to use and may show advertising in the future to cover its costs. Advertising will never be placed inside or beside the calculators, and it will never change a result.

If a result looks wrong or a rule has changed, please tell us at hello@timecardcalculatortool.com. Include the punches you entered and the result you expected, and we will check it against the engine's tests and fix it.
